Things You Should Know

REGISTRATION
Age & Residence Requirements
Most adult education classes require a minimum age of 16, though some courses are specifically designed to be enjoyed by parents participating with their children, and others are geared toward senior adults (55 and older). If you have questions about age requirements for a specific class, call (502) 485-3400.  You are not required to be a resident of Jefferson County to attend classes.  Many of our students come from surrounding counties and Indiana.

Cancellations & Classes not in Session
Most classes require a minimum number of students. In the case of insufficient enrollment, students will be contacted and given an opportunity to transfer to another location, transfer to another class, receive an electronic voucher, or receive a refund. Class maximums vary according to the nature of the class.  After the registration deadline
has passed, Adult Education reserves the right to cancel any class that does not have sufficient enrollment to cover costs. All classes that have sufficient registrations by the deadline date will continue to enroll students until the first day of the class.

Adult Education classes will not meet when Jefferson County Public Schools are closed. This includes holidays, staff development days, snow days, etc. Click here to view the JCPS calendar.

Registration Deadlines:

Fall I - Classes with start date in September - deadline to be determined.
Fall II -October 19th, 2009

Inclement Weather
Lifelong Learning will not issue refunds for classes which have been postponed due to inclement weather or other circumstances beyond our control. We will make every effort to reschedule such classes. Listen to your local news and radio stations for class cancelleations due to weather.

Registration Confirmation
After registering a registration confirmation page is generated. If the student has an email address listed in their profile, the confirmation will be emailed to that address. If there is no email address listed, students will be given the option to print the confirmation page. It is important that students bring their confirmation with them to the first class meeting. The instructor may ask to see the confirmation to verify enrollment.

If a student registers by phone or fax, the confirmation page will be emailed. In the case that a student does not have an active email address in their profile, the student can request this page be printed and mailed to the mailing address indicated in the student profile by calling the main office at 485-3400.

Finding the Classroom
Room assignments are posted at each night center outside the main office. Jaeger classes are posted on the main entrance and outside rooms 114 and 114A.

Course Refunds
If the Adult Education Office cancels the class, you will be contacted and given the choice of enrolling in another class, receiving a class voucher, or receiving a refund.

If you need to drop a class after the first meeting, we will enroll you in another class of your choice or issue an electronic voucher for a class of your choice within the next twelve months.

Textbook Refunds
Textbooks are available the first night of class at the Night Centers. Many are available at local and/or online bookstores. Adult Ed receives large discounts on books and passes those savings on to students. Students do have the option of checking with their instructor the first night of class to ensure the textbook is required.

There is a "no refund" policy on books purchased from the Lifelong Learning Program.

INSTRUCTOR-FACILITATED ONLINE COURSES
Length of Course
You will have six weeks to complete the course beginning with the first day of your class. Lessons are released twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays. A total of 24 hours of instruction are required for each online course. Log on with your username and password provided via email to the student. Career Certificate Programs last 12 - 15 months.

Note: Courses start mid month, every month.

Overview
First, register and pay for the course. Your online account will be set up. You will then receive an email directing you to our Online Instruction Center, www.ed2go.com/jcps. Here you will be directed to follow the set-up instructions on the bottom of the home page. On the start date of your course, you are ready to begin your online journey! Career Certificate Program students will receive their course access code 2 to 3 days after their registration is verified.

Slow Connection
If you are using a dial-up modem it will take a little longer for the course screens to load. Wait 5 to 10 minutes after logging onto the course before beginning the course to allow the screens to be fully loaded.

Software
Some courses required you to preload software before beginning a class. If any software is required, it will be stated in the course description. In all other cases, our partner’s software emulates the particular software of the course you are taking.

Textbook
At this time, ten instructor facilitated online courses have required textbooks. Other courses have free supplemental material for students to print for future uses. Courses requiring textbooks will clearly state the title, publisher, and ISBN of the necessary textbook for students to purchase in advance (there will be a link to Amazon.com if a book is required.). Career Certificate Programs include textbooks which are mailed directly to you on an as needed basis for lessons.

Username & Password Don't Work
The username and password are case sensitive. Make sure you have typed them in the same way they were emailed to you. The www.ed2go.com/jcps username and password are not the same as the www.lifelonglearning4u.com registration site. You will need to create a new account at your first visit to the online instruction site.

  • Class vouchers may be applied toward the cost of any future Lifelong Learning course within twelve months from the date of issue.
